WHEN IS IT TIME?
Losing a beloved pet is extremely painful. Deciding when to let go is one of the most difficult decisions you will ever make regarding your pet. This can be particularly challenging if your pet is quite old or suffering from chronic illnesses. Because changes are often slow and insidious, progressive loss of function becomes the “new normal” to which future changes are compared. Consequently, we may not fully appreciate our pet’s potential suffering. While we all want to give our pets every possible minute of life to enjoy, we don’t want to prolong our pet’s suffering to stave off the inevitable pain of loss. An honest evaluation of your pet’s quality-of-life is key in making a compassionate decision that puts your pet’s welfare first. The first resource is your veterinarian, so do not hesitate to ask for help. Your veterinarian can provide insight on your pet’s medical condition and the progression over time that you are likely to see.

A WORD FROM OUR DOCTORS
ABOUT OUR DOCTORS
DR. KATHY MEYER
Dr. Kathy Meyer has been providing end-of-life care for pets since 2017, when she began working with Dr. Karen Randall of Solace Veterinary Services. In May 2022, she established Peace & Comfort so she could continue to provide care for local pets and their families after Solace closed. Dr. Meyer is gratified that she can use her education and experience to help people and their pets at this emotional and poignant time.
Dr. Meyer graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. After 9 years in general practice and 5 years at United States Pharmacopeia, she opened the Veterinary Behavior Clinic in Gaithersburg, MD in 2000 and cared for pets with behavioral problems until 2022. Since then, she has devoted her veterinary career to assisting pets at the end of their lives. Dr. Meyer has completed the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy Master Program.
DR. REBECCA BOLCH
Dr. Rebecca Bolch is a 1992 graduate of Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. Since then, she has been a beloved general practitioner in the DC area, helping thousands of pets and their families over the past 30 years. During this time, Dr. Bolch often cared for patients from the time they were little kittens or puppies up through the very end of their lives. These experiences underscored for her the importance of allowing families to be with their pets in the most comfortable setting possible when saying their final goodbyes.
Dr. Bolch feels fortunate to be able to continue helping families in the DC area by providing compassionate, end-of-life care for their four-legged family members, surrounded by love in the comfort of their own homes. Dr. Bolch has completed the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy Master Program.
